The
SABC has taken serious steps in their move to revamp their main radio studios in
time for the 2010 World Cup. Previously the flagship stations, Metro FM and 5 FM
had been running off analogue systems that were dated and limiting in terms of
production ability and broadcast flexibility.
The
new interfacing technology of the 52 MX from Deubner Hoffman Digital or DHD,
which is locally distributed by Concilium Technologies has brought the digital
area to the national broadcaster. By enabling 4 of their main radio studios with
online capabilities SABC can now deliver services that were previously not
possible. The studio modernisation has allowed the SABC to proudly showcase its
broadcasting capabilities to the international
community.
The
configuration capability of the DHD consoles has proven to be reliable as it has
allowed for the key integration of various other applications within the SABC
studios. The new setup consists of 3 separate consoles servings as a live
broadcast studio, a production studio and standby studio. All of these are
integrated ensuring seamless production through the ease of digital
technology.
The
new setup means that shows now have access to up to 11 microphones for
in-studio
guests, direct news feeds from the SABC news room and a superior
achieving
system allowing for quicker access to information. "The new routing
capabilities
of our studios means that they can be linked to anywhere in the outside
world
while handling incoming signals and feeds with ease," says Gelfand
Kausiyo,
General Manager RFB at SABC.
As
the 2010 Soccer World Cup approaches, SABC has also announced that Radio
2000
will be the official radio station of the event, and will be known as
the 2010
station. The enhancement of the studios means that key interviews with
top
sporting celebs can be simultaneously broadcast on other radio stations,
the
internet and within the SABC itself.
"DHD
has mastered the process of audio consol mixing and has been a major
component
in the modernisation of the SABC's studios. The consoles sit central to
what we
are now able to do now. We are now networking internally and externally.
Adding
to that fact is the overall aesthetic look and feel of our studios which
has
completely changed. We are proud to showcase our achievements to the
international community," says Kausiyo.
"The high
reliability of the DHD operating systems has impressed a number of our
clients.
The quality of workmanship and the support has been excellent as the
German
based company has met with the SABC directly to ensure ease of use and
the best
set-up solution for the broadcaster's needs," says Sean Long, Broadcast
Sales Engineer at Concilium
Technologies SA.
